Miracle in the Gorbals

‘Miracle in the Gorbals’ is a re-imagination of a ballet of the same name, first performed by The Sadler Wells Company in 1944. It tells the story of a mysterious stranger bringing a supernatural gift to the Gorbals area of Glasgow in the 1940’s. This work shows my process of re-contextualising this ‘lost’ ballet through collage and experimentation in set design into the modern-day setting.  This new version would instead follow the narrative of the real evolution of the Gorbals over the last few decades. Much of the work has been informed by interviews held with current and ex Gorbals residents, so I have started to design small books that tell their story to accompany the set design.
