The Parliament of Foules

A project adapting lines from Chaucer’s poem The Parliament of Foules into a one (wo)man show. The poem is about birds meeting on the 14th of February to choose their partners and is believed to be the source of the association between Valentine’s day and love. The stanzas I chose were about a ‘royal eagle’ and I began by making him a costume based on 14th century jewellery. The longer I spent in the Reid building the more the performance became about trying to gently disrupt the strange smooth spaces within it, and less about the poem itself. Recently I have been experimenting with projection and interviewing people about their experiences of the Reid.
