From Our Graves The Flowers Grow
My practice has long been driven by Myth - by their narratives and characters, and by the morals and cultural expectancies devised through each story. The Uroboros (the snake devouring its own tail) and the Greek figure of Gaia are at the centre of this ongoing project. The scientific concept which appropriates the figure of Gaia theorises that the Earth acts as a singular organism. This theory establishes the complexity of viewing the human race as the superior end point of nature: not just one small part of this larger entity. I want to represent this never ending pattern of life and death that predestines and precedes us. We are only speeding up the cycle that will carry on without us here to witness it.
